In one hand forestry has been traditionally allocated to less quality soils and agriculture to higher quality soils. Will I get better land equivalent ratio if I plant agroforestry on higher or lower depth/quality soils?

This depends on the specific context of these areas, like the existing land-use, hydrology, soil type etc. Instead of making it a decision between high or low quality soil, it is generally a good idea to look at the individual area on it's own right to assess if agroforestry is a good fit.
